Pencil him as a new co host of King's Evening, replacing Jim Dever...cashing in on the longtime Cashman name in Seattle media. Chris just wrapped up another emcee gig at the NW Emmys, and I would question that role continuing, because he works for one of the contenders/entrants. Can he be impartial? He previously had a co-host slot on an ill-fated 4 p.m. show a few years ago on King with Angela Russell, Michelle Li and a weather anchor whose name I can't remember. All of them gone. Of course, his dad, Pat was a star on 'Almost Live' on KING years ago, so there certainly are connections there. More at the link.
"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks. Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas. Her last Facebook posts are 12/17. She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO. Looks like her decision. Wants a new chapter. She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO. Perhaps Stella Sun will move there. She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.
Congrats to Chris on his new role.
ReplyDeleteDo you think Cashman should host the Emmy's here. I don't. Bad look if he is employed by a major entrant which already wins a bunch.
DeleteNo, I don't think he should host the Emmy's here so long as he is employed at KING. It would be a major conflict of interest, seeing as how KING always enters and frequently wins the Emmy's here. The Emmy's should be hosted by someone who either is or was involved in the industry who is not actively employed in any capacity by any of the local stations, regardless of whether the stations are particpating in the Emmy's or not. It would be a great role for someone like Matt Lorch or Michelle Millman.
DeleteThanks for the question.
I would recommend a major Emmy winner like John Sharify who must have at least 60 or so. He is smart, funny, respected as a newsman in the market. He's the perfect host, a trainer, a teacher and a great storyteller. He spoke to my class at UW.
DeleteAn excellent suggestion. Emmys organizers, take note.
DeleteThe fact that one individual can win 60+ regional emmys is absolutely absurd - no matter how good the work is.
DeleteYes, as I have posted before, the Emmy awards is a racket, but in this particular case, I think Sharify would make the awards more significant and less a standup comedy act by Cashman. Chris may have emceed the year he was on the KING 4 pm. Maybe it was already cancelled before awards night. I don't remember. My guess is that if he doesn't host, they will give him some kind of award for past work.
DeleteThe weatherman for that show was Jordan Steele, who later went to one of the national weather outlets. He seemed like a nice guy, but he never really clicked with me. Not sure why.
ReplyDeleteThanks for that, I knew it was Jordan but appreciate the last name. That show was done from the lobby of the new KiNG building on 1st Ave. Wooof.
ReplyDeleteThat lobby setup was not the greatest. It always seemed rather dark and dreary to me, which is not the vibe KING was going for with that show.
DeleteI wonder if his dad is still going to grocery stores and flipping over pineapple upside down cakes.
ReplyDeleteYeah - it may be a conflict, but the regional emmy system is not a level playing field to start with. Who's hosting is the least of their problems. My son's t-ball team has higher standards.
ReplyDeleteI hate to throw in this term, but Chris is more of a "nepo baby".
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan. He's a survivor, which is OK in the TV biz.
ReplyDeleteChris' career, if anything, is hardly withstanding. He tried so hardly to become a cast member and writer on Almost Live, but that ended when the show got the boot. He tried with his father and Keister to launch another late night sketch cimedy show, but that didn't gain any traction and felt like they were upstarting an opportunity since the skits were rarely funny. His longest "job" was not in TV, but hosting a game show on the Xbox. I don't know what value he can put on Evening, but his father still has a higher Q score even after all these years. Pat is kind of the Seattle version of Phil Hartman.
ReplyDeleteIf the emmy awards want someone who is not funny and has never been able to remain employed in tv for an extended period of time with any level of success, he should still host.
ReplyDeleteOuch....turns up like a bad penny? Nah NATAS likes him but they preach ethics and such.
