Change coming on weekends at this Seattle TV

KOMO's Hannah Knowles posted this Sunday.  She's moving on and, so far, no word on what's next professionlly.  She's getting married.   Last day July 30.   Zahn on vacation next week, so we will see who's at the weather wizard wall.   That's why they did their goodbyes today.

  1. I do hope KOMO does a career retrospective on Hannah. I will enjoy all :39 of it.

    1. Joined in June 22, so it must be an expiring three-year deal. She had some success on the KOMO evening live desk, and the weekend move was a nice one, but weekend mornings are wasteland these days. She's a Utah grad, so maybe Salt Lake is in play?

    2. Much like Tegna and Cox/Apollo are always trying to be on the "affordable" (cheap) end of things, I am going to go off the wall on this and they will tell Theron that since he has done this for about the past 25 years, he can pretty much do both weather and anchor weekend mornings. Since Chris Daniels fancies himself as the go-to-guy when it comes to Seattle sports (and usurping Niko), Chris can do weekend sports as well since Sinclair is pretty much paying for his salary and they paid him handsomely to remain in Seattle and take him away from KING5. Again, that is my hunch.

  2. Pretty doubtful that Chris would anchor sports, but mre likely that Zahn will anchor solo with weather taped the night before by Shannon or Stella.

  3. I'm sorry to hear that Hannah is leaving KOMO. She and Theron barely had time to develop an on air rapport on the weekend morning shows. The weekend morning shows might not be the most important, but a good team makes even the weakest newscast a little bit better, and that's what was starting to happen here following Lee Stoll's departure. I wish Hannah all the best in her future endeavors, and look forward to seeing who KOMO decides to pair Theron up with next.

  4. The best Theron pairing was with Marlee Ginter. That was must see TV. She was so earnest with her baking efforts. She’d bring in things for him to try each weekend, and they usually looked less than appetizing. He’d sample it and give his honest opinion. It was hilarious, tv gold.

    1. I had completely forgotten about that! Those segments were always worth watching.

    2. I agree 100%. Loved Marlee and Theron. They were must-see-tv every weekend.

Rebecca Stevenson has left KOMO

"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.  Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.

Seattle TV Weekender Ends Her Run

So long to KOMO's longtime weekend morning anchor Lee Stoll who did her final show Saturday.  She previously worked at KIRO7 and KREM2 in Spokane and did a little fill-in for me at the old NWCN.  She's a Northwestern U grad.   Weekend weather sidekick Theron Zahn will likely step right into anchor slot.  Newcomer Stella Sun may also be in the mix.  Zahn bid Lee a final goodbye this morning.  She is not revealing what is next, saying "That's for later." Also, next month Komo News Operations boss Dennis Hanson and longtime Production Tech Rena Mullen are retiring. There's a big Studio C station bash for them and retiring ND Phil Bruce on December 5th.
