Beware The 4th of August on this Seattle TV

Yes, the day is almost here for Fox 13 Seattle to, as promised, expand its morning news to 5am-11am, while dropping the current 430 am show.    Studio 13 will now start at 11 instead of 10, but remains 30 minutes.   That a big 6.5 hours straight live.  So, I wonder if any blocks or segments might be replayed like they are doing in the afternoon/evening slots.    I will have to peek in.

  1. Mark my words! These changes will bring in dozens of new viewers. Got to think if you’ve seen 20 minutes you’ve seen all 6.5 hours.

  2. It would be more difficult to replay blocks or segments on a morning newscast that draws its audience by offering frequent live weather and traffic reports, at least one of which is part of nearly every block. It will be interesting to see what Fox 13 serves up come next week.

  3. Weather can be repeated at times if it is a normal day, and some feature segments and interviews, too. All very easy to do to allow short breaks when the anchors can chill and the control room is on autopilot.

    1. Very good points. Its not impossible for Fox 13 to bring a modified version of their new approach to afternoon and evening news to mornings, but there will be more than one live block to contend with each hour, so it won't be quite as easy to do.

  4. It doesn't matter whether Studio 13 gets bumped up an hour later or anything as the show is hardly anything of value other than to give Mireya Garcia something to do since the 4:30am newscast is going away. She may fill-in when Makovsky is off and do some field reporting out for the AM news since their go-to morning field reporter Nikki Torres is gone and continue to do the Spanish-version "newsbrief" for the station's website. Time will tell.

    1. Its my understanding that Mireya has been co-anchoring the 4:30am, 5am, and 6am portions of Fox 13's morning news, in addition to hosting Studio 13 and the Spanish language news segments online. Are you suggesting that Mireya won't be part of the permanent anchor lineup for the morning news going forward?

  5. Garcia is versatile so that is her lifeline but the show is in decline, for sure. Not going back to an hour is an indicator. Cheaper than a syndie program and the show's interviews and community work helps fulfill the license requirement.
