Another Seattle reporter gone?

A loyal reader tips that Louis Tran has left KIRO after being touted as part of their pieced-together investigative team.   Been here about two years.   No other info at this point.

  1. My partner knows someone whose spouse works at KIRO - they mentioned Tran left a few weeks before Rick Boone was fired. So it seems he’s been gone since early June, maybe? He hasn’t updated his socials, which could mean he doesn’t have anything new lined up yet.

  2. No idea about this guy, but it sure seems like most who leave these days leave the business rather than go off to a new market as it once was. Guessing bigger cities or network have little appeal now.

    1. That does seem to be the trend nowadays. TV news is losing far too many good people to other industries.

    2. And if you look at it, those who have left will say they are in a much happier place, both physically and mentally with no regrets. You can be in your 20s/30s or in your 40s/50s, but that is the reality of working in a field like journalism. Waking up at 2a during the winter and ready to go live at 6a? Have a weekend get-together planned with the besties and called to cover weekend weather? Any J-school professor or news director will tell you that's life. Hey, if you don't like it: there's the door.

  3. You picked the right time to blog the industry, I remember when the evening news lineups were stable for decades.

    1. Not to forget when stations here were locally owned as well. I can still remember the smell of warm Fisher scones in the newsroom when I was at KOMO. It only meant the Puyallup Fair was upon us.

  4. Egan is in Cooperstown for Ichiro HOF, so I understand the fill-in.
