Ethan Mcreynolds?? A producer anchoring? The main two should back each other up, right?
Desperate for filling in on the moribund Washington Sports Wrap?? They use the station's digital guy Curtis Crabtree as a guest as well, so the conclusion is that this show is failing. I know it's summer but get Elise Woodward or Dick Fain or Softy. I mean they already have a KJR connection thru Furness. Don't get it, except to save a buck.
Side note: The FOX company sees Sunday thru Thursday as their key broadcast days, and usually disregard Friday and Saturday anchors. NFL football is the key factor in season. But it's nothing new.
Long ago, talent like this would have labored away in the small markets, gradually making their way up the DMAs. Now, straight from graduation to a Top 20 market. And it shows! Certainly some good people, but never a chance to develop before getting to large markets where there is minimal coaching and no chance to really grow.
ReplyDeleteA lot of talent still does spend time in small markets before moving up to large markets, but even they are moving up more quickly then they used to. As a result, we are seeing more and more talent on our screens that isn't quite ready for primetime. They can only do so much without proper coaching and training, which they aren't necessarily getting by going straight to a large market upon graduation. In this case, McReynolds is getting valuable presenting expierence by filling in that will hopefully enable him to become a better on-air talent in the future. It might not make for the best viewing expierence for us, but it does give us a taste of what viewers in small markets get to see each and every day on their local newscasts and programs.
DeleteJust like with sports itself, getting promoted from the minors to the majors too fast can ruin a good prospect.
DeleteIt sure can. Hopefully, that won't be the case here.
DeleteAgreed. The point is they need more seasoning first in a medium market, and coaching here in Seattle. They arrive early with fewer credentials and get a smaller salary.
