"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks. Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas. Her last Facebook posts are 12/17. She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO. Looks like her decision. Wants a new chapter. She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO. Perhaps Stella Sun will move there. She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Jeff Renner is back! LOL.
ReplyDeleteThat would be great, though it seems unlikely. Hard to believe its been nine years since he retired.
DeleteBring back Rebecca!
ReplyDeleteIf she returned to KING, would it be her third stint there? I know she had an original stint prior to her time as KIRO's chief meterologist, and then another stint more recently.
DeleteJeff took the buyout in 2016, not coming back. I am thinking Chris Warren, ex of The Weather Channel, who has a condo here, I think. Parella Lewis possible, but on the east coast right now as is Lisa Vilegas.
DeleteChris would be a good hire, as would Parella.
DeleteI don't think she wants to do TV again, in favor of maybe seeking some communications or similar jobs with a company. We shall see.
ReplyDeleteI saw KING had an open position on its website for meteorologist (not chief). So I was thinking perhaps they may be promoting from within and then backfilling for that person.
ReplyDeleteNobody on KING now is evening material (except Rich, but that ship has sailed. Pizzetti and Ruiz are okay but Claibon is horrible.
ReplyDeleteI thought Ruiz did okay during the Grays Harbor tornado warning coverage back in November. I don't see her all that often, so I can't assess her day-to-day performance. I don't think that KING has a bad weather department, though it has lost some ground in recent years, and is now at a crossroads. Losing Mike is certainly a blow, and losing Rich will be an even bigger hit when that day comes. They need to make some strong hires in order to maintain their legacy.
DeleteThey need to bring someone back that has cred.
ReplyDeleteChris Warren, ex of NWCN and The Weather Channel with Chief cred
ReplyDeleteHear's a thought. Do TV stations need weather anchors or just weather producers. it's going to be replaced.
ReplyDeleteThey need both. With the weather becoming more erratic and severe in recent years, TV stations need people dedicated to helping people know whats coming, plan their lives around it, and make sense of it all. That being said, there may be extended periods of calmer weather when staffing levels could be tempoarily reduced, like retailers who reduce staffing during less busy times.
DeleteWeather predictions are everywhere and TV is less important. But, weather on TV newscast take 3-330 out of the content requirement. It fills a key gap.
ReplyDeleteYou make a good point. Perhaps we don't need them to be making predictions about what is going to happen, but rather we need them to guide us through the scenarios that actually materialize as they happen with a focus on saving lives.
DeleteChris Warren will be the guy. He’s just recently left the weather channel. He’d be a good fit.
ReplyDeleteKING has removed the weather posting from their website. Either an exciting new hire or a questionable weather-hubbing or anchor-reading announcement is sure to come soon!
ReplyDeleteThe plot thickens!
