"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks. Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas. Her last Facebook posts are 12/17. She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO. Looks like her decision. Wants a new chapter. She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO. Perhaps Stella Sun will move there. She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

I guess the rights to tee ball were too pricey.
ReplyDeleteIt increasingly feels like more and more broadcast TV airtime is being filled with live sports. But those sports aren't just limited to the most popular ones (football, baseball, basketball, etc.), as we can see here. I too would be interested in looking at the ratings to get an idea of how many people are really watching all of the additional live sports offerings we've been seeing in recent years.
ReplyDeleteAlso, these additional live sports offerings are proving to be quite disruptive to normal programming schedules, making it more difficult for people to watch their favorite newscasts and entertainment programs at the times they expect them to be on. Yes, streaming helps people get around this, especially for the latter, but it is starting to reach a point where some may decide not to even bother getting interested in the broadcast networks' primetime entertainment offerings because of increasing disruptions from live sports.
Normal programming in the summer is filled with reruns anyway, except for prime time game shows. The belief is that live sports is DVR-proof, but I don't think rugby or cricket or minor league hockey do the trick. Fox 13+ is the new Root Sports, putting anything and everything on to get a number. Remind me to pass on Big Sky football this fall, lol. Yikes.
ReplyDeleteYou make a good point about summer programming being filled with reruns. However, they aren't just taking away airtime from reruns. KIRO/CBS had European Soccer on weekdays from 11am to 2pm for a number of days in the Spring in both 2024 and 2025, which, to my knowledge, had not happened before, disrupting new episodes of The Young and the Restless, The Talk, Beyond The Gates, and KIRO's noon newscast.
