ICYMI the Fox owned television stations ran a hour special called AFTER GEORGE FLOYD, documenting the violent aftermath of the man's death at the hands of policemen in Minneapolis five years ago. It was produced by the company's O&O there and scheduled on all Fox stations. KCPQ pretty much buried it over the holiday weekend with this broadcast schedule. They couldn't find a more prominent time??
- Seattle: KCPQ Saturday 5/24 – 8pm, KZJO Sunday 5/25 – 4pm
With Fox's heavy weekend sports schedule, those may have been the best timeslots to air it on Saturday and Sunday. That being said, they could have scheduled an additional airing or two on Monday as there were no sporting events on the main channel, and all of the local newscasts were scheduled to air as normal even though demand for them would have been lower than usual. They could have pre-empted an hour or two of the local newscasts to air the special on Monday. While the timeslots might not have been any more prominent, they could have at least given viewers more oppertunities to watch it.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they didn't want to publicize it at all. Memorial Day weekend was not the time or place, which tells me that's why Fox wanted it basically buried.
ReplyDeleteI can agree that Memorial Day weekend really wasn't the time or place to air a special of this nature given that the Memorial Day holiday is supposed to be about honoring fallen military members. That being said, the holiday weekend did coincide with the five year anniversery of Floyd's death, so I can see the timeliness value of airing it over the holiday weekend. If Fox didn't want it to be buried, perhaps they should have picked a timeslot either just before or just after the holiday weekend to air it. Failing that, it could have been aired exclusivley on the Fox Local streaming service, which Fox 13 often promotes.
