The Seattle Reign and the Sounders have formed a new partnership with Fox 13 Seattle. Tegna's KONG had 11 Reign games in 2024.
So to recap, KING-KONG has a Seahawks partnership and a Kraken partnership. FOX13/FOX13+ now has the soccer deal wrapped up, the Rugby Seawolves, Thunderbirds hockey and the majority of Hawks games during the season. KOMO has the Storm and CW now which will be showing plenty of WSU Cougar football next fall. KIRO seems handcuffed with a hedge fund owner, no sports department and no team partnerships. KTSW is CBS-owned but the network has other issues right now with top management changes and 60 Minutes fallout. Not much left anyway for those two stations.
Root Sports still has the Mariners, of course, but it costs a subscription fee (and nobody knows how man subscribe), so it would not be a surprise to see some games on a broadcast partner next season if they stay on a winning course. TEGNA (KING's owner) is already broadcasting some Rockies games in Denver, Rangers in Dallas and the D-Backs in Phoenix. So watch for this in the future.

What is the reason why these new local broadcast deals NEVER state the exact length of the deal? They usually say “multi-year agreement”. Is this some type of legal cover they have to post now?
Yup, I knew that, but as they say in baseball, E-5. Appreciate the reminder, too.
DeleteIt may be characterized that way so that the competition doesn't know exactly how long the partnerships are. KING signed with the Hawks in 2022 so this is the fourth year. That's a long one in today's volatile media world.
DeleteThanks for the roundup. Always worth knowing where we the viewers can watch our favorite leagues and teams.
ReplyDeleteYou can't tell the players without a scorecard.
DeleteThat you can't.
