Soliz and Shen together, but there's 'Something About Mary.'

Good to see a 5 pm show on KOMO with ex-KING's Steve Soliz teaming with Molly Shen.   Very strong vs KING's Joyce Taylor whose name is uniquely on the 5pm show there.  On the other hand, why is Mary Nam doing a sub-anchor piece at the big wall about a major power outage in Europe???   Not enough local news?  Who does that affect locally?  It's a 30 second story.  New News Boss wants more anchor power on the program?

Mary Nam now co-anchoring the 6 pm with Molly - NO Preston Phillips.  Maybe he is off, or they wanted him to disappear a bit while adjustments are made.  You never know.    Musical chairs.

And Steve Soliz says he will be anchoring the 10 pm on ARC Seattle per his opening intro.

Surprised to see Molly soloing the 11.  No sign of Preston.

  1. Great to see Steve make his debut on KOMO. As for Preston, doesn't he normally host ARC Seattle's nighttime edition at 10pm on KUNS? Perhaps he'll turn up there later tonight.

    1. Soliz on the ARC 10 on Monday and said on-air that he will be doing the show every night. Hmmm.

  2. Hmmm indeed. Have to wonder if Preston is going to be moving to a different show(s) or if he will be leaving KOMO soon.

    1. Recording the 11 but it could be Steve is 5-10-11, 5 with Molly, of course, 10 and 11 solo. We shall see.

    3. That is a surprise! I'm used to seeing Molly on the 11am news, although even that seems to be hit and miss. Not the 11pm. Change is definitely afoot at KOMO, and during sweeps no less.

  3. Perhaps they don’t have enough horsepower to produce enough local content. Or maybe viewers can only absorb so many local crime stories.
My personal belief: since the demise of the fairness doctrine and the rise of the for profit news model,
Local voters have abandoned broadcast news as a source of information. It’s become entertainment!

  4. It was just odd to put another main anchor on a story from Europe so high in the 5 pm show. I think they simply want to make sure Mary has a role in that show after anchoring earlier. I think she also co-anchored the 6 with Molly on Monday. Get yourself a program. I can barely keep up myself.

Rebecca Stevenson has left KOMO

"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.  Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.

Frankie Flees KIRO7

UPDATE:  Frankie got married!!! Acting on tips from two of my loyal readers, I see that Weekend Weather Wizard Frankie Katafias is indeed missing from the KIRO 7 website.  Freelancer Scott Haveson filled in this past Sunday and we know that reporter Brandon Thompson has hit the weather wall in the past as a fill-in.   No word on if Frankie fled on her own or was told to.   She came to Seattle in 2022, so maybe it was a three-year deal that ended?
