In Seattle both KING and KOMO led their evening newscasts Sunday with reports on the final important state legislative decisions in Olympia. Excellent. Actually covering important news. KIRO, not even close. They have NO reporter at the Capitol.
Her goodbye post below! After an almost five-year stint, FOX 13 meteorologist and part-time news anchor Abby Acone ends her run there with a final show on this Sunday morning. Married earlier this month, she left no word on what's next. Not sure if it is fully her decision, but I'm told she had 'favored nation' status with news management. Before joining 13 in December of 2021, she worked three years at KOMO and also did a stint in Tri-Cities. Fittingly, this last shot on IG is studio appropriate. I've been frequently critical of her on this site for using the station's studio to post questionable videos (IMO), but for now, good luck. KIRO did not have a reporter at the Capitol on the all important final day of the state legislative session? That is shocking and sad. I know that this was a weekend, and that KIRO is short staffed, but that's no excuse for failing to cover something so important. The decisions our legislators make during the session matter to each and every viewer as we all have to live with the consequences of those decisions, whether good or bad. Daily coverage of the state legislative session should be a top priority for all of the news producing TV stations in Washington State, short staffed or not. Kudos to KING and KOMO for putting the viewers first by covering the news that really matters, even on the weekend!
