Saturday, Hannah Knowles handled the entirety of KOMO's morning news, including voicing over weather graphics, with Theron Zahn absent. Sunday, Knowles was gone and Theron did the morning show solo. It was like a trade-off. I would have thought the new guy, George Waldenberger, might have helped for at least one day. Is is spring break or something? Just musing.
And, Oh, Chief Fox13 Met Brian Macmillan was on weather Sunday morning instead of Abby Acone.
Schedules must be tough these days.
It's no surprise why weekend teams are known to operate with a skeleton crew, so when it comes to scheduling, everyone is drawing lots because no one simply wants to work extra. After all, TV news is a 24/7 operation and may be a great thing to work weekdays and get weekends off, you never know when your number gets called like the draft and you need to perform your service. After all, why did you go into journalism in the first place knowing that yes, you're going to miss those "important" gatherings and yes, you're going to have to maybe reschedule that "function". Many folks that have worked in this industry (local and network) will tell you that this is not the greatest field family-wise. One "big name" journalist I spoke with told me how it cost them two divorces as some assignments took them on the other side of the world. Either way, everyone has to do their fair share as this is a team effort. You can be in Yuma or Chicago or even in Seattle, but no station I know hires people as "weekend" exclusives. Either way, those are my thoughts.
