Here's purely a question. With the push from the Trump White House to eliminate DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) efforts around the country, I still assume KING will continue to go strong with its award-winning Facing Race franchise which been going strong for several years now with specials and segments. It won a prestigious Peabody Award.
"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks. Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas. Her last Facebook posts are 12/17. She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO. Looks like her decision. Wants a new chapter. She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO. Perhaps Stella Sun will move there. She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.
I think you knew this before asking the question. The FCC has become a weapon and is already using DEI to find reasons to punish broadcasters the administration doesn't like. Unless Tegna share holders want to burn huge amounts of money on a protracted court fight, they'll drop the DEI to fly under the radar.
ReplyDeleteYou are likely right and I should mention that Tegna's newest news boss just left CBS in the middle of the 60 Minutes mess. Tegna is not shy these days about cuts, hubbing marketing for stations and cutting the Verify team. Because so many TV franchise segments are merely ratings plays with no staying power, at least this one had some ideas and depth to it.
