Our friends at FTVLive.com report that KREM Spokane weekend weather wizard Michelle Boss has been replaced by taped weather out of Tegna flagship KUSA in Denver for 2025. Surprised that KING folks were not selected for this considering their knowledge of the PNW and the ample staff. Odd decision. Michelle worked for me occassionally doing some fill-in at the old Northwest Cable News. She just celebrated 25 big ones with KREM. (Tim Pham and Michelle)

Kind of a disturbing direction for TV Journalism. It makes me wonder what future generations will have to love and cherish.
ReplyDeleteI would expect to see this happen in many of the smaller and even medium market stations over time. SInclair is the biggest offender, but Tegna just hubbed all of its marketing, so more to come on the hubbing of newscasts, weather, etc. Local sports may survive because of high school football and baskeball. KIRO7 currently has all but abandoned sports.
ReplyDeleteWhich is sort of ironic, since they were, as I remember, I leader in local sports at one time.
DeleteDeregulation has caused consolidation, putting programming decisions into the hands of the so-called bean counters.
