Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.

  1. Glad I found this site! Thank you for some insight on what is happening with personnel at Kiro 7. What is the problem with the many departures and newbies arriving??

  2. Is Frankie K pregnant and having a baby on her leave?

  3. She's on and looking great. Next to Nick and Shannon, Frankie has Chief chops! I really miss seeing Rebecca. Not the best, but I couldn't help rooting for her. Thought she was at her very best at KOMO. When she first came back after her long leave and resurfaced on KIRO, she was very rusty and breathy. Really turned it around at KOMO. Welcome back Frankie, we need you!!! You're great. BTW, Abby at 13 could tone down the sweetness. It seems fake!!! I like the smiling, but she goes over the top People! Her favorite word! Not very sincere.

  4. I like Frankie K. but she could not be Chief before Nick. I don't care for any of the recent KIRO hires, especially the new Assistant News Director. My top source says the place is a mess, starting with mgmt. Cox is losing its longtime news boss at WSB, so the clock continues to tick for that company.

  5. As of April 27th Frankie has left KIRO. No word on a new job.

  6. Not sure of why she departed, but TV contracts are often two years or three. She came here in 2022, so maybe it expired and no deal could be done. Also, a parting of the ways. She was a solid anchor, so it is a large loss for 7.

  7. Thanks for the info, sorry Kiro 7 doesn't say goodbye to former employees. They sure have lost a lot of people I enjoyed.

  8. The communications business does not often communicate to its viewers, probably because of possible claims.

  10. That was former NWCN weather man Ed Muir who did three weekends for KIRO freelance. Robert Van WInkle starts next week from Florida. Check previous posts for photo and more detail.

Rebecca Stevenson has left KOMO

"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.  Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Frankie Flees KIRO7

UPDATE:  Frankie got married!!! Acting on tips from two of my loyal readers, I see that Weekend Weather Wizard Frankie Katafias is indeed missing from the KIRO 7 website.  Freelancer Scott Haveson filled in this past Sunday and we know that reporter Brandon Thompson has hit the weather wall in the past as a fill-in.   No word on if Frankie fled on her own or was told to.   She came to Seattle in 2022, so maybe it was a three-year deal that ended?
