Well, it is a traffic related story on the WSDOT budget, so why shouldn't the traffic reporter cover it?
ReplyDeleteWell, they didn't bill him as a traffic guy with news expertise in the set-up, so who knew why he was selected. Does he know anything about the deeper subject? I would say no. Adam is a traffic map guy and don't forget they have weather people anchoring news. It is a staff shortfall, corrected in any way they can on a bad station.
ReplyDeleteWhat a snob. There are a lot of people doing news without journalism degrees, including some of the top people in the business. Name one TV reporter in the Seattle area that would be more of an expert on the WSDOT budget. We don't have beat reporters anymore, even at the newspapers. Adam is as qualified as anyone to do the story.
DeleteName calling from an anonymous person doesn't work, but here is one name: Drew MIkkelson, who has covered the statehouse and its lawmakers for more than a decade. Regardless, I will stand corrected. I had missed the announcement last month that Adam had been promoted to anchor/reporter at Fox 13 so it wasn't a random shuffle of talent. I was not impressed by the piece I posted on the blog, because it contained only one interview, offered no transportationbudget numbers from past legislatures and had no balance. Needed context, not two sound bites from the same man. My guess is that Adam will pre-tape some stories while still doing a.m. traffic.
DeleteLooks like both KIRO7 and KCPQ13 are shuffling the players to where they are needed. Whether its to cover days off or due to layoffs, the situation at these stations is confusing. You can't tell who is where without a playbook.
ReplyDeleteI agree that musical chairs have taken over, but these days, talent is not as important as it was and with so many added newscasts and staff departures, there is a tipping point, so you have to call in the reinforcements.
DeleteAdam has a good on air presence, so I'm sure it's working well.
