My Christmas Gift List for Seattle Media (naughty and nice) - plus a Poem at the end!

With Christmas near, here are my Christmas wishes for the Seattle media gang:

For Jesse Jones, a new position that allows him either to continue helping people solve consumer issues or just keeps him happy and healthy.

For KIRO7 to stop making bad talent decisions, like cutting Jesse Jones and forcing news reporters to do weather anchoring and weather anchors to be street reporters.

For Fox 13 Seattle's talented Meteorologist Claire Anderson to deliver a beautiful new person to this world.

For Fox 13 to stop using weather anchors (left-grimace??) as news anchors just reading prompter.  What a look on both.  (News anchor right, looking bored).

For KOMO, that the new incoming news director will curtail the comtinual alarmist-style crime reporting and spare us ARC Seattle in the morning. It's awful.  Too many hired gun PR guests.

For KUOW-FM to remain number one, reassuring some of us that straight news and public radio still matters.

For KIRO-FM's retiring Dave Ross and co-host Colleen O'Brien to catch up on sleep after years of those awful early hours doing morning news.

For KIRO-FM, that former ND Charlie Harger has a successful time waking up early and taking over for Ross.

For KING's Kelly Hanson to have a long run as new host of KING's New Day show and, after FIVE months, for the station to finally hire a replacement for Kim Holcomb on Evening. She went to Amazon

For The Seattle Channel, that the new funding plan by the Mayor and City Council will allow continuation of its important civic, cultural connections and discussion.

For Root Sports, that Major League Baseball reportedly producing games will pump some life into the stale Mariners TV coverage as it currently exists.

For Comcast/Xfinity to stop charging $18.50 a month to watch the team.

For Dave Sims to be the perfect successor to the great John Sterling as the NY Yankees radio voice.

For Ian Furness to inject more of his radio talk personality and excitement into the Kraken Hockey Network shows.

For KING's Paul Silvi to continue his reign as the dean of Seattle TV sportscasters.

For Seattle's TV married couple Niko Tamurian (sports director) and wife Farah Jadran (weekend morning news anchor) to continue their success on KOMO and KING respectively.

For 710's Brock Huard to get a shot at some NFL booth work for FOX in 2025.  He got his start in Seattle TV in 2005. A real success story.

                                                     AND NOW!

Last but not least, this ode on the state of the business:

"Twas the Time Before Christmas and all thru the stations....

Too many fill-ins to cover on-air vacations...

The bosses were gone and the newsroom was quiet...

They pay us so little, we're all on a diet...

The laptops were grinding, much info to share...

But people with phones may no longer care...

Some now call radio fully outdated...

That's probably 'cause it's gone all automated.

We already know the only constant is change...

So try something new, don't stay in your lanes...

As corporate closes, they go home in their limos...

Still making sure sales pushes the demos...

But I heard them exclaim as they rode out of sight...

We're going to keep cutting till we get it more tight...

So do your best NOW to spread some good cheer...

Cause next year will $uck and it's almost here."

                  Merry Christmas!

Rebecca Stevenson has left KOMO

"I am no longer at Komo 4." Thanks.  Longtime Weather Anchor Rebecca Stevenson confirms that she left the station just before Christmas.  Her last Facebook posts are 12/17.  She has the Seattle station Quintafecta, having worked at the old NWCN, KING, KIRO, KCPQ and KOMO.  Looks like her decision.  Wants a new chapter.   She was doing mainly weekend evenings for KOMO.  Perhaps Stella Sun will move there.   She has been sharing weekend mornings with Theron Zahn.

Where is Frankie?

Many have missed KIRO 7's weekend PM weather anchor, Frankie Katafias, so I reached out to some of my sources to find an answer.    She is apparently taking a few months of leave, but not known specifically what the reason may be.  Although there is uncertainty, it could be a personal or family matter.   I am told she is expected back at some point in the new year.  She is a great asset to what has become a troubled station.  Meanwhile former KOIN Portland chief met holds down the fort.

Seattle TV Weekender Ends Her Run

So long to KOMO's longtime weekend morning anchor Lee Stoll who did her final show Saturday.  She previously worked at KIRO7 and KREM2 in Spokane and did a little fill-in for me at the old NWCN.  She's a Northwestern U grad.   Weekend weather sidekick Theron Zahn will likely step right into anchor slot.  Newcomer Stella Sun may also be in the mix.  Zahn bid Lee a final goodbye this morning.  She is not revealing what is next, saying "That's for later." Also, next month Komo News Operations boss Dennis Hanson and longtime Production Tech Rena Mullen are retiring. There's a big Studio C station bash for them and retiring ND Phil Bruce on December 5th.
