TWO UPDATES: How's WSW looking with the a.m. competition now? Alyssa: Gone soon from 13.

I thought I would peek in at Fox 13's Washington Sports Wrap Thursday night, in light of the debut of KING5's new morning hour, The Ultimate Seattle Sports Show. I wa s immediately surprised to see Alyssa Charlston-Smith hosting.  I thought she had left to be the new analyst for Seattle Storm TV. Strong opening graphic and video billboard of multiple stories.  Teased an exclusive interview with Ben Horney, the Front Office Sports journalist who reported that two major media moguls were bidding for the Seahawks.    It was sound from the Fox 13 Live Desk story from earlier in the day.  Good breaking news, discussed his sourcing, etc.  It was later refuted another reporter and Meta on social media Ethan McReynolds with a standard press conference package on Hawks' draft choice Jadarian Price. Quick voiceover on the female Kraken asst. coach who's leaving in hopes of a head coaching job elsewhere. First block rounds out with brief stories about Storm and Marine...

I only lasted 18 minutes aboard the ARC

I decided to take a quick, fresh peek at KOMO'/KUNS/CW ARC Seattle Wednesday morning.  I was going to review the full two hours, but I was turned off from the jump with the inane comment from co-anchor Tyrah Majors following a very halting, awkward, disjointed live shot by a seemingly frustrated Natalie Fahmy about a  shooting that happened yesterday at a building where the Seattle Mayor was speaking.  The live shot included a trash collector  walking in the background, BTW.   Live TV, folks.   Then McCarron turned to Tyrah and related how they talk often about how to curb continuing gun violence in the city and she responded:  "It's certainly an issue and, unfortunately, a lot of these leaders don't see it going away completely soon."   Certainly an issue?  Really? Thanks Captain Obvious.   "Leaders don't see it going away?"  "Completely soon?"  Profound insights, indeed.  Yikes.  She was totally ...

This company's National Weather Desk is kaput

Sinclair is terminating its National Weather Desk at the end of May, according to a social media post from an old colleague of mine, Jay Mishkin, who has run the operation for four years.   I wonder if KOMO weather anchors will be filling that void.   Look out Shannon, George, Stella and Theron

Finally, a true victory for this Seattle TV.

Looks like KOMO is #1 CHAMPIONS, ONCE AGAIN! 🏆 KOMO News wins the 13th Annual Windermere Cup Media Cup Charity Challenge on the Montlake Cut - after finishing in 4th place last year. (A little rowing redemption this year - I suppose?!)  As part of the win, $2,000 will be donated to USO Northwest! (Big thank you to the Windermere Foundation!)  Special shoutouts to Windermere, UW Rowing, Pocock Rowing Club, our wonderful coach Jenn Gibbons, our wonderful coxswain Corrado Moy, and Vincent & Oliver for rowing with us!  What a blast. ❤️

A big TV rebranding in the Rose City

KPDX, Fox12+ in Portland, will become Rose City Sports Net, a new network focused exclusively on women's sports.  The announcement comes from the station and the new Portland Fire WNBA expansion team, of which former Seattle Storm TV analyst Elise Woodward will handle play-by-play duties.   The new net can also be streamed for $5.99/mo.     KPDX is licensed to Vancouver, WA, BTW.

Another loss in Spokane. News Boss' days are short.

Jessie Kane, news director at KREM in Spokane, is slowly but surely stepping away from her job at the Tegna station.  She's a former EP at KING in Seattle. Met her husband there, who was a news producer. She's on the Eescape Tegna Express.' Courtesy Rickgevers.com, here is a note from her GM: KREM Team, As mentioned in our newsroom meetings today, I want to share that Jessie Kane has decided to step away from local news. She will remain with KREM for the next several months, giving us time to plan a transition and begin a national search for our next News Director. Jessie made a meaningful impact during her time here. She guided the newsroom through COVID with steady leadership and support and led KREM to become the first station in the country to launch Cuez automation. Throughout a time of rapid industry change, she remained a thoughtful leader with a strong commitment to journalism. We are grateful for the energy, care, and leadership she brought to KREM. We are in a str...
