My Take on Seattle Sports TV/Radio Media

The overview of Seattle TV sports media is simple: KING5 owns the Seahawks paid sponsorship, gets all the access it wants, has the pre-season games and The Fifth Quarter Show every Sunday after NFL football.  Silvi, Egan, producer Knip and EP Tony White hold this thing together.  They just added another reporter from the Denver market to beef up.  KING has the Kraken in the fall as well.   Clear leader.    KOMO is down to Niko Tamurian, who does a nice job, but has no backup except the Senior News Reporter who thinks he does sports, Chris Daniels, who does a podcast with Tamurian.   Pick one, Chris. KIRO no longer has a sports department, but what will it do when it has a Sunday Seahawks game on CBS with nobody to do post-game.  Maybe K.J. Wright??  Wasteland. KCPQ has a good number of Seahawks games on Sunday and post-game shows, too.  They just added a weeknight sports show starting 7-29 that no one needs.   Storm g...

Ineey, Meeny Miney, MO -- is leaving KO-MO

Major 'Evening' Departure in Seattle

After 18 years, KING 5's Evening Magazine co-host Kim Holcomb is not renewing her contract with the station, and her last day is July 24th, just as the program goes on hiatus during the Olympics.   Kim is married to former KING/NWCN reporter.anchor Rob Piercy who works for the Paul Allen Brain Institute in media relations.  No word on what's next.  Here's is her goodbye message. "It feels surreal to post this but I’m making a major life change: I’ve decided to not renew my contract and I’m leaving KING & Evening. I’m so proud of everything I’ve accomplished during my almost 18 years at the station, and I’m eternally grateful for every viewer who’s watched and supported our show. But, a lot has changed in the past 1.5 years and I feel like it’s time to step away, move forward and try something different (which sounds like a weird jig but YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN.) I’m not sure what comes next, but I’m thrilled to find out! Thanks for being a part of my little l...

Sinclair Shuts Down More News

A the old country song goes, "Down in the West Texas Town of El Paso," we see that the nefarious Sinclair Broadcast Group, which owns KOMO in Seattle, KATU in Portland and KIMA in Yakima, is shutting down its CBS affiliate in El Paso.   It's done the same thing in Tulsa and Savannah.     More here: https://elpasomatters.org/

A Tegna Transfer from KING to DC in the Works?

Sources tell me that KING5 Seattle Executive News Producer Alex Vitale is a finalist to take over the morning newscasts at Tegna sister station WUSA in Washington, DC.   Stay tuned.
Who's on your Seahawks Mount Rushmore??  Wilson, Largent, Beast Mode???     Well, Fox Sports talk show host Colin Cowherd kicked that question around with former Patriot Justin Edelman. Courtesy: https://x.com/SeattleONTap/status/1814157545763975395

SeattleTV has Major Tech Meltdown

UPDATE:  There was a global tech outage with a companycalled Crowdstrike which has been causing connectivity issues for airlines, banks and communication.  KOMO in Seattle suffered the same problems as KING. Thursday night: Tech troubles knocked out late night newscasts on the NBC affiliate Thursday as viewers tuning in saw only rotating traffic cameras, a few strung-together commercials, two quick anchor advisories with no audio, and lots of black.
