Goldy 'Waltzes' Away Early

Mariners lead announcer, Aaron Goldsmith, says he's starting his All-Star Break early as of now, with Rich Waltz taking his chair until the Friday after the mid-summer hiatus.    Goldy wins by a 'hair!'

  1. Yup. Standard vacay for Goldy that he has traditionally taken around this time of the season. Waltz so you know Wayne a lot of Mariner fans want him to take over for Rick Rizzs on radio following Rizzs' retirement at the end of this season, I among them. Rich has been a true pro for so many years.

  2. Didn't he do the Angels for a short while? I've never heard his work.

    1. When Niehaus had a heart attack back in '96, Waltz took his place. He had been doing the pre- and post-game shows on Prime Sports/Fox Sports Northwest for a few years when that happened.

    2. He did the Angels yes, and also did the Blue Jays as well back in the day but he is most prominently known for his long stint as the TV PxP for the Miami Marlins. Waltz works nationally for MLB Network and AppleTV and you will see/hear him this fall on CBS as he is likely to be the lead PxP guy for their Pac-12 college football coverage. He got to call the Apple Cup last year for them and has been with CBS calling college football for a long time. And through all this, he has maintained the Seattle area as his base of operations. The man is a true pro and he showed it again over the weekend with RRS down in Tampa.

    4. Of course. Or maybe closer to an hour considering he's been in the business for something like the past 30-35 years now by my count

  3. As I’m sitting here watching the Mariners go down in flames again, what I appreciate about Goldy is he says just enough

  4. I think Rich's work in the booth also shows a weakness of Goldy. Less is more in baseball, and Goldy has really become a constant chatterbox. Too much in this baseball fan's opinion. I do like Gary Hill on radio, but Rich would be a perfect fit for when Rizzs leaves.
