New lead male anchor at Seattle TV

Word that former KOMO Seattle intern, Chris Nguyen, is returning as the new evening news main male anchor after stints with CNN and others, including KGO in SFO.    Chris just left Scripps News amid their major anchor cuts and residual chaos.  He replaces Eric Johnson, who retired, and is hired before the new News Diretor arrives later this month.  Hmm.    I guess Preston Phillips is out or moving to a different slot, but who knows. No official word on him.  He may just pick up one newscast and handle the Live Desk on evening shows. Nothing new on Hannah Knowles at this point.  A bit more on Chris here: https://xcom/JoeVeyera/status/1863767201356149060

Welcoming this talented TV lady back to Seattle

Cool news that former Seattle TV news anchor and KING's New Day Northwest host, Margaret Larson, has left North Carolina and returned back to the PNW.    Here's an excerpt from column she just wrote for NorthwestPrimetime.com "I worked at KIRO TV first, then back at NBC Dateline, and later at KING TV. After ten years of hosting ‘New Day Northwest’ on KING TV, I retired shortly after COVID hit. We had a family situation that required our attention, so we pulled the ripcord again. We bought a house on the internet and moved to North Carolina. It was always meant to be temporary while our son went to school there, but we also enjoyed it. Beaches, mountains (okay, East Coast versions of mountains), great food and friendly people. But here we go again. It wasn’t home. "Being away from the Northwest was hard. We missed our dear and long-time friends and neighbors. We missed the mountains and trees and waterfalls and ocean. We missed vacations in Long Beach. We missed the ...

Claire Anderson UNDAUNTED

Claire Anderson, FOX 13 weather wizard, whose baby is due pretty soon, posts today after all of the viral national/international discussion of her on-air wardrobe last week following a body-shaming email from a female viewer.   I have more info farther down the blog if you need background.   Keep it goin, Claire.

A peek at and flash critique of King's 5th Quarter Hawks postgame show.

The 5th Quarter on KING5 airs immediately after Sunday Night Football as a big primetime post game show on the Seahawks.    The show has a distinct advantage with that big lead-in, including the partnership between the team and the station.  They get the guests that they want, at home and away (and they travel to every road game), so in a sense it is not a fair comparison to Fox 13's Gameday weak post and KIRO's mealy efforts.     After the win over NY, I checked in and found that Paul Silvi was live on tape with both Steve Raible and Dave Wyman, who had called the game on the radio network.  Steve is a weekly guest, but they apparently added Wyman because regular co-host Walter Jones, the hall of fame lineman, was off. I am not a fan of what Jones adds, but know that he brings a true Seahawks following and admiration for his participation.   Personally, Matt Hasselbeck, who has had national exposure on ESPN and now a guests Mondays on...

Longtime TV Sports Guy with Seattle Ties Retiring in Yakima

Alan Sillence plans to do his final two KIMA sports shows on Jan. 10, a Friday. The next day he’ll celebrate turning 70.   While attending Nathan Hale High School in Seattle, Sillence grew up close to the television trade with his father, Roy, a longtime news director at KOMO.  Courtesy: Yakima Herald

Stoll Gone, Simms In, For Now?

KOMO called on reporter Ryan Simms to step in for Lee Stoll Sunday, whose last weekend morning show was Saturday.  On a holiday weekend of staffing, hard to know if this is a one-off or the harbinger of a permanent assignment.  Regardless, Theron Zahn and Stella Sun still doing double duty both as co-news anchors and weather wizards.
