Slow Going on Hires at a Seattle TV?

Image
It was late July when Kim Holcomb left Evening Magazine on KING 5 to join Amazon and then in mid- September Amity Addrisi left the station for the Allen Insitute in Seattle.   Word today that no permanent replacements have yet been hired, and I expect nothing will happen while the station is in the Nov. sweeps and holidays looming.   They are certainly saving some $$ while the search continues.   Maybe nothing until the New Year dawns???    We shall see.

Quick Take: Brady as a Broadcaster

Image
Although I am not a big fan of Tom Brady as an NFL analyst on games, I think he is really strong in-studio every time I see him on The Herd with Colin Cowherd on FS1.  He knows his stuff, gives solid insight, offers non-rambling answers, speaks well with his eyes, gestures and facial expressions.   He might be ultimately on ta p to do studio for Fox on Sundays, possibly replacing a retiring Jimmy Johnson or Terry Bradshaw.

Quick Take: Amazon Election Coverage

Image
Had to laugh the Amazon attempt at election nigth coverage.   All Brian Williams did was pass along what the other networks were reporting while sitting behind a lonely looking desk in front of a goofy backdrop with farmhouses, government buildings and a big highway.  Added some reporters looking for work like Shepherd Smith, Don Lemon and Candy Crowley.   Stick to Sports.

A Climate Commentary from a longtime Weather guru

Mariners All Access Returns

Image
There has been no definitive word from the Seattle Mariners about TV plans for next season, amid all of the Regional Sports Network concerns in MLB, but here's Angie Mentink of Root Sports cranking up the first of a regular Wednesday night 6 pm schedule in November (BTW, Jen Muelller ususally hosts).   The lead-in is something called Perfect Game TV, whatever that is.   Still wondering if the team will make some sort of deal to air some games on a broadcast partner or streamer.     Here's a video: https://x.com/ROOTSPORTS_NW/status/1854233719093240064

UPDATED: Where's Wolf?

Image
*Wolf Blitzer back in action the morning after on CNN.    No trace of Wolf Blitzer in his usual key anchor slot during CNN's prime time election coverage.   Jake Tapper was in control.   Haven't seen any reason.  He may have anchored earlier in the day, but not in prime.

Seattle New HIre Does Double Duty

Image
Eric Thomas, who is anchoring weekend news for KIRO7 Seattle, was also doing a Monday 'Morning' Quarterback segment (on the 6 pm news????) about the Seahawks.  So he is part news and part sports, as he was for awhile working in Canada.  Par for the course, at "The Incredible Shrinking Station."

Who's the Spokane TV News Mystery Troll?

Image
KXLY News Boss Melissa Luck has everybody guessing with this post on X.   She has ruled out a bunch of folks in the comments. Melissa Luck Fun fact: the viewer who emails some of the most obnoxious stuff to our on-air talent is a longtime Spokane anchor who you think would know better. Thanks for watching! https://x.com/MelissaKXLY4/status/1852523155526648107

Whatever happened to ESPN?

Image
If you despise the loudmouth clowns on ESPN as much as I do, e.g. Smith, McAfee, Perkins, Greenberg, Ryan et al, here's a great read from Pittsburgh's top sports radio talker (Mark Madden, pictured above, no slouch himself on being bombastic)  about how the 'worldwide leader' has fallen.  I agree.  ESPN has made some of their personalities bigger than the sports themselves in the face of instant scores and highlights on phones.   But its carriage on cable is suffering and ESPN+ is not the answer yet.  They will soon go direct to consumer, so we will watch the action. https://triblive.com/sports/mark-madden-espn-has-fallen-drastically-far-from-glory-days-of-the-worldwide-leader/

Have no fears, Kim's offiicially at The Spheres!

Image
We have a new pic below (well, better late than never on this one) of former Evening Magazine co-host Kim Holcomb at her new corporate communications job at Amazon: "I've started the next phase of my career...at Amazon.  I'm supporting their incredible Global Sustainability and Community Impact work -- two things I care about deeply.   I am over the moon!  Truthfully, it was scary to step away from a 25+ year career, but now that I am on the other side, I'm so proud I didn't let fear dictate my decision."    Kim is yet another former King5 staffer who left for Amazon.  I believe Meg Coyle was the first, then investigative chief Kellie Cheadle (who has since left), Lindsay Sieverkropp and Mark Erskine ( he has left as well), Holcomb's former bosses at Evening.   (two pics, swipe right)  https://www.instagram.com/p/C_4WXB6PfDh/?sh=MWFtMndnM2Jxajdjcw==
