Former Seattle TV news boss leaves Sinclair behind

Cheryl Carson is stepping away from her News Director job at WJLA (in the other Washington) to care for elderly parents.   She was Assistant News Director and then later News Director at KING for three years, succeeding Mark Ginther.  Her tenure at Sinclair in DC concludes at the end of February (of course, after the Feb sweeps!)

Rebecca Stevenson weighs in on Weather layoffs

For background Allen Media Group started a firestorm of backlash when it said last week it would layoff all of its meteorologists across the country and, instead, use staff at their Weather Channel to tape forecasts.   The company has walked back that decision for now.  As you may know, Rebecca just left her job at KOMO after working for four other Seattle stations over the years and did leave town for a stint at Al Jazeera America.     Here's her take on the situation and there is some more background in the link: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/15ajsvKu2F/

Norah, we hardly knew ye

Thursday night is Norah O'Donnell's last night anchoring the CBS Evening News after more than five years.  Her newscast has never been out of third place and now she will be replaced by (count 'em) three people, Maurice Dubois (who), John Dickerson and Margaret Brennan.  Doesn't sound like a good idea.  Rememer Jennings, Reynolds and Max Robinson decades ago on ABC???   Well, we shall see.  Norah remains a 'special correspondent.'  Tough go for females on CBS over the years, from Connie Chung, Katie Couric to Norah. Anyway, set your DVRs/

Ichiro goes Hall of Fame, a Seattle TV embarrasses itself

Watched the 7pm KIRO 7 tonight and it badly exposes what happens when you fire your entire sports department.  Some unknown general assignment street reporter does a piece on Ichiro's presser.  Main news anchor Monique narrates a highlight memory piece. Pathetic   Reap what you sew, KIRO.  You are not in the ballgame,so to speak.

Great Volunteerism by this Seattle TV legend

From Jeff Renner, legendary KING5 Meteorologist -- a Facebook post: It seems the best way to find light when seemingly surrounded by darkness is to seek ways to bring light to others. The Invictus Games are coming to Vancouver/Whistler, and I volunteered with friend Kevin Murphy to help as a volunteer for the XC skiing and biathlon events. The Invictus Games were started by Prince Harry, initially for wounded/sick/injured Commonwealth veterans...and now expanded to such veterans from all countries. This past weekend was a 'shakedown' weekend to learn what we need to do to make it a success. The actual Games are several weeks away.
