An Exclusive Interview with Seattle TV Weather Legend Jeff Renner

Jeff Renner is a legend on Seattle television, leaving KING5 as Chief Meteorologist in a buyout in spring 2016.  He remains a forecaster for private firms and even has his own 'non weather' show on MeTV.    With fall firmly upon us, we thought it  was a good time to check in with this still very busy, versatile and talented man and pop some timely questions to him.  Here are his thoughtful and in-depth answers, and not just about weather.  Hope you enjoy. 1.  What has retirement from nightly television been like for you since 2016.   "I treasured my years doing forecasting for KING and doing science reporting, but since ‘retiring’ don’t find myself with much time on my hands. In 2016, I was asked to join the board of a group called Paths to Understanding, which promotes interfaith and intercultural dialogue. The organization asked me to redevelop a television program the founders developed in the 60’s and early 70’s. It’s called Challenge 2.0...

A Couple of KIRO 7 notes

Laughed at KIRO 7 Seattle reporter do ing live shots from Boeing Field at 5 a.m. when VP candidate Tim Walz doesn't land until evenimg. Great journalism...sheesh. That's the best you got??? Oh and finally realizing that the station's morning traffic is being done by Double Duty Nick Allard. the morning weather anchor. The cuts at COX Media continue. They lose Kazori to L.A. and dump Jesse Jones.

Kraken TV ratings soft so far?

Listened to part of the podcast 'Inside the Arena' with KOMO sports director Nico Tamurian and Senior Reporter Chris "I wish I was a sportscaster" Daniels.  Daniels said broadcast TV ratings on 'linear' KING/KONG hav not been good so far for pre-season telecasts.  Of course, pre-season hockey is not much of a draw in early fall compared to all the other sports cooking right now.  It's early.   Daniels likely has access to the overnight ratings provided to the sales dept.    You can hear his comments for yourself  about 10 minutes or so in. https://x.com/ChrisDaniels_TV/status/1842965568355262940

Sun Rises at KOMO

It looks like we are getting a bit of clarity about KOMO Seattle weather talent.  On Saturday Theron Zahn was back at the weather and news desk with Lee Stoll, while Sunday, Stella Sun, the new hire, took the post.   Perhaps it's a break for Zahn so he doesn't have to work both weekend days after so many years at the station.   Or perhaps it's because because both are also news reporters and KOMO gets more strength in the field.

Mozart, Haydn and Greg Copeland

In the small print above, KING5 anchor Greg Copeland steps away from the anchor desk to get a little classical!  But youcan read more here: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/3YngUGgnCABWpXc3/

Theron Zahn back in action

Updating the weather anchor merry-go-round on Seattle TV, Theron Zahn was back on KOMO weekend mornings co-anchoring news wih Lee Stoll as well as doing his weather duties, so the station is getting its moneysworth with TZ.  No sign of Stella Sun, the newest addition to the KOMO weather team, which appears back at full strength and then some.   Stay tuned.
